First, you need to get your Wii online, either by connecting your Wii to your local Wi-Fi or plugging in an Ethernet cable from your DSL or cable modem. Bright Hub has a great article on how to do this… connect Wii to Internet. With your Wii connected to the Internet, you can also trade friend codes and play against friends online in some games. The Internet Channel, as of this writing, costs no money at all.
There are several sites of note that concentrate on Wii-playable Flash 7 games. These are among the most popular, and each has dozens of games to try for free. Place the SD card into your reader and format it. Copy the homebrew software onto the SD card. Turn on the Wii. The console will ask you if you want to install boot.
The console transfers the file into the system storage area. Press one when prompted to do so. The next screen gives the user to install the Homebrew channel, uninstall the homebrew channel, or install software that allows the Wii to play DVDs. You do not need DVD functionality to play the free downloaded games that the Homebrew channel provides. There are also a number of other methods however, LetterBomb works without a game and only on System Menu 4.
To check your system version, open the Wii System Settings by clicking the round Wii button in the lower-left corner of the System Menu. Just make sure you update your Wii fully to the latest 4. You see the version of our system is 4. You will need this to perform the actual hack. Now, you can back out to the System Menu. Next, you want to visit the Letterbomb website. In the following screenshot, we indicate our system menu version 4. Click on the Mail icon in the lower-right corner and go back one or two days.
Otherwise, click on the letter bomb and it will execute the code needed to prepare your Wii to install HBC and HackMii. You will know everything is a success when you see the following screen warning you to never pay for any of this software, which is provided free of charge to everyone.
The HackMii installer is currently at version 1. We recommend both.
